to the instant correspondent (not exactly how the communication was transmitted,
but better that you think of it in that way):
"The German letter to Martin was never made (immediately) accessible to General 
Readers. It might aid your efforts if the aforesaid were posted--as the great 
bulk (as can be seen from your log) of Mr. Hance's readers, never communicate with you;they 
simply read what they see.  Posting the letter might provide the conceptual fulcrum 
that one or more of your (anonymous) readers is currently missing."
